Police open a murder case after a woman was fatally shot in Fortgale, Mthatha

Mthatha Police have opened a case of murder following the death of a 32-year-old woman who was shot several times and died on the spot in Fortgale.

According to police spokesperson, Sergeant Kaya Matola-Mvanyanshe, the shooting incident happened on Friday, November 11, at about 21:00.

“Two women were walking on foot path from the R61 road not far from Mpuku Area near Fortgale in Mthatha when an unknown male suspect shot at one of them several times and fatally wounding her on the scene.”

“The deceased's friend collapsed and was conveyed to a nearby hospital,” said Matola-Mvanyashe.

The motive behind this killing is unknown

In another separate incident, it is alleged that on Friday, November 11, around 23:00, a 43-year-old man was found dead inside his room with assault wounds on his upper body at Maqhinebeni Locality in Mthatha.

The deceased was identified by his next of kin and suspects behind the murder as well as motive behind the incident are unknown and remain subject of a police investigation.
