A well-known former radio presenter from Unitra Community Radio (UCR FM) in Mthatha, Sisa Maxakana, will now host a new show at Ingwane Community Radio, also based in Mthatha, from Friday (January 20).

Maxakana resides at Emasameni locality in Libode, and he left UCR FM in August 2016.

Maxakana is known as one of the best programme directors for traditional ceremonies around OR Tambo District Municipality.

Talking to Express, he said his show is called Masivukeni mawethu and it will be on air from 03:00 until 06:00 on Fridays. “What led me to like radio was that I always wanted to see the people who were talking inside our radios in our homes. I was not aware that it was only the cables that are connected. Also, listening to radio presenters from Radio Transkei led me to have more love for radio,” said Maxakana.

He hosted a breakfast show for a long time at UCR FM, but left when he was doing the same programme but on Saturdays only.

He urged youth to focus on building their lives, instead of wasting time destroying them.

“To all those who see me as their role model, they must know that you work hard in order to achieve what you want in future. Our youth are very lucky because they are supported by government if they want to open their businesses; the support is always there,” he said.

“They also get support when they want to further their studies, meaning that they have a right to choose what is best for them. What worries me is that they think when they go to school they are doing their parents a favour, yet they are building their own future.”
