Three people have died while two others sustained severe injuries after the vehicle they were traveling on lost control and overturned in a mountainous and steep gravel road in the Qeqe Administrative Area, Butterworth.
Eastern Cape Department of Transport Spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, said an Isuzu bakkie with five occupants was travelling from the Qeqe administrative Area towards the Gxakhulu location when the driver lost control of the vehicle on a steep road.
“The male driver suspected a foreign national died on the scene along with two females died on the scene. The two injured male adult and female teenager both sustained serious injuries and were taken to Butterworth Provincial Hospital,” said Binqose.
He added that a culpable homicide docket has been opened at Butterworth Police Station for further investigation.
