The agent of the Springbok flyhalf that was arrested at O.R Tambo International Airport yesterday, has released a media statement, shedding more light on the alleged circumstances surrounding his client's arrest.
Springbok, Elton Jantjies was arrested on a charge of malicious damage to airline property after arriving in Johannesburg on a flight from Dubai yesterday morning, May 15.
According to Jantjies' agent and CEO of In Touch Sports, James Adams, a light was allegedly damaged on the plane.
"We believe that the incident has been unnecessarily heightened. Our client, however, remains compliant with the investigation process and will address this matter with the seriousness it beckons," Adams said.
He added that Jantjies, who returned home after spending a week in Turkey with his family, has been released and is not in police custody. His family is still in Turkey.
"We would like to allow the legal authorities to attend to this matter without any undue influence and ask that the public and the press respect the legal process without casting judgement and also request that our client's right to privacy be maintained," Adams said.
"No further comments will be issued at this stage," he emphasised.
