Police in Nelson Mandela Bay confiscated copper cables worth a quarter of a million rand during a theft that occurred in Wells Estate early this morning, November 15.
Police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, said that Anti-Gang Unit members approached an open field at 07:30 where a group of men scattered in all directions after noticing them.
"In an intelligence-driven operation, Anti-Gang Unit members followed up on information of a group of males busy stripping copper cables in Wells Estate. On seeing the police vehicle, they started to run off in different directions," she said.
Copper cables weighing 405 kg were confiscated. It is alleged that the burnt and insulated cables belong to Telkom. The estimated value of the cables is R250 000.
