SAPS Humewood detectives have launched an inquest investigation into the drowning of a 32-year-old woman at Gqeberha Harbour early this morning, April 25. The incident occurred as she was driving a Ford Ranger Cab onto a vessel carrier.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg said, it is alleged that at approximately 03:45, the woman was working at the vehicle terminal, and while driving a Ford Ranger Cab onto the vessel carrier, witnesses alleged that the vehicle accelerated and landed into the harbour.
She added that the woman was unable to exit the vehicle, which then submerged, resulting in her drowning.
"Her body was retrieved, and her name is being withheld until her next of kin has been informed."
An inquest docket is opened for investigation.
