Gqeberha police have apprehended a 35-year-old suspect for being positively linked to two cases of attempted murder and reckless driving.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, it is alleged that today, October 30, at approximately 02:00, at the corner of Albany and Govan Mbeki Road, SAPS Mount Road Vispol members were busy with patrols when they noticed a man fall to the ground while crossing the road. The members approached the man in an attempt to help him and, in so doing, discovered a pistol with a magazine and five live rounds of ammunition in his possession.

The suspect was arrested for illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition.

"It was later established that the suspect was positively linked to the two attempted murder cases and a reckless or negligent driving case that were reported at Mount Road on Saturday, October 29. In the first attempted murder case, it is alleged that the suspect was involved in an altercation with his co-workers in early hours of the morning. When the complainant woke up, he noticed his colleague was not home, and neither was the company vehicle," said Janse Van Rensburg.

Shooting
The suspect was also involved in a shooting and motor vehicle accident in Burt Drive on Saturday, October 29.

She added that upon the suspect's arrival back home, he was questioned about his whereabouts by the complainant, the suspect pulled out a firearm and pulled the trigger, but the gun did not discharge. The complainant ran away. It is further alleged that the suspect fired multiple shots and drove off with the Ford Figo.

"In the second attempted murder and reckless, negligent driving case, it is alleged that on Saturday, October 29, at approximately 07:40, in Burt Drive, Newton Park, the driver (suspect) of a Ford Figo collided with a white panel van and a private ambulance vehicle. After the collision, as the driver of the ambulance approached the driver of the Ford Figo to evaluate his injuries, the driver got out of the vehicle and fired multiple shots, thereafter he ran away. No one was injured during the shooting, and the Ford Figo was confiscated," Janse Van Rensburg said.

The suspect will appear in the Gqeberha Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, November 1, to answer all allegations.
