A glittering send-off was held by the Nelson Mandela Bay Boxing Promoters Association (NMBB Promoters Association) in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality at City Hall recently, honouring the excellence and celebrating the international representation of national cruiser-weight boxing champion, Razel Mohamed.

NMBB Promoters Association secretary, Mbali Zantsi, informed attendees that Mohamed will challenge the New Zealand boxer Lani Daniel in the IBF title fight at Eventfinda Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand, on August 26.

“The reason that we have gathered here is that Razel has risen to the occasion and we are very proud of our boxer and Caiph Camp under trainer, Caiphus Ntante,” said Zantsi.

The main speaker, Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality MMC: Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Bassie Kamana, wished Mohamed a safe journey to New Zealand.

“I want to acknowledge the role that is played by promoter, Mzwandile Sidina, who plays a huge role in uplifting the boxing standard in the Nelson Mandela Bay region. We as the municipality rally behind Mohamed because we are very proud of her. We wish her the best of luck.”

Boxing South Africa member Nceba reported that the “BSA is happy and excited to release Razel’s licence to go to fight in New Zealand.”

Mohamed indicated that they are fully prepared for the fight.

“It is difficult to fight at another country where you know nobody. Nobody supports you and sings for you. But we worked very hard for the fight and I am a different boxer now. We aim for the knockout. Lani Daniel is the champion, but I feel no pressure,” said Mohamed, an Ankervas Primary School teacher.

Ntante stated that they look forward to bringing the champion’s belt to South Africa.
