A man has died after his car burst into flames following a collision on the R75 near the St Leonard and Uitenhage Road intersection during the early hours of this morning, May 1.

A white Mercedes Benz C-class was allegedly driving on the wrong side of the road and collided head-on with a blue Renault Kwid at approximately 03:00.

Police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, said that the Kwid burst into flames due to the impact, killing the driver.

"The Renault Kwid caught alight on impact and the driver who was alone, died. He is unknown at this stage and police are attempting to trace his next-of-kin. The three occupants in the Mercedes Benz (driver and two passengers) were taken by ambulance to hospital prior to police arrival," she explained.

A case of culpable homicide is under investigation.

Anyone who can assist in the investigation or in tracing the next-of-kin is asked to contact D/W/O Errol Kleinhans at SAPS Algoa Park on 083 243 4567.
