Police in Gqeberha are seeking the community’s assistance in tracing either the next-of-kin of deceased people or information relating to suspects involved in serious crimes committed over the last few months.
In the first incident, on March 3, 2022, an unknown man was severely assaulted in the Gelvandale policing area. He was subsequently taken to hospital by ambulance and succumbed to his injuries. Police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, said that he was a black male in his thirties. No other information is available and at this stage, an inquest docket is under investigation.
In the second incident, police are seeking the mother of a newborn baby found dumped in a bin at a fast food franchise in Cleary Park on May 8 this year. "The newborn baby girl was found in a plastic bag thrown into a sanitary bin in the toilet. The umbilical cord was still attached to the child," Naidu said.
"The baby was in a partial state of decomposition and staff became suspicious after a constant foul smell lingered in the toilet. No other information is available and police have opened an inquest docket," she added.

In another incident, SAPS KwaDwesi detectives are seeking the next-of-kin or identity of a black male between the age of 25-30 years whose body was found in bushes on September 8, 2022. It is alleged that at about 14:00 on the said date, police found the body in bushes in Winnie Area close to Despatch. "He sustained a gunshot wound to his head. The deceased was wearing a black beanie, orange, grey and navy blue track suit top, grey pants and black flip-flop sandals. A case of murder is under investigation," Naidu said.
