When Teneal and Lee Abrahams met in November 2021, they immediately started dating and got engaged in December the same year, getting married in February. For Teneal, she was not looking for love at the time, and was not really interested in the dating scene – but Lee was not about to give up on the woman of her dreams.
“I bought both our teams’ lunch to try and get her attention, but she wasn’t having it. It took me another month to get her on a date and three weeks later I moved to Gqeberha and asked her to marry me. Within three months we got married and we have now been together for two years. I knew she was the one for me the moment I saw her, and knew this was the woman I wanted to grow old with,” he added.
Teneal couldn’t help but mention that she and her husband started with nothing and have built their marriage on the foundation of Christ.
Teneal said,
The Abrahams family is growing as they are expecting their first baby, but unlike most expecting moms, Teneal did not want a baby shower just for herself, posting on Facebook that she would like to host 10 deserving mothers for a mass baby shower.
“I imagined how mommies that don’t have anyone to support them or have nothing for their babies yet; just imagining that stress and anxiety during one of the most important times of your life is horrifying. I at least have my husband, but what about mommies who are completely alone, and I wanted these mommies to have someone who could support them and give them just one day where it was just all about them. I believe every woman deserves to not have to worry about anything during her pregnancy. It’s the most difficult time during a woman’s life to bring another life into the world and it’s harder to do it without support,” Teneal explained.
Her husband, beaming with pride, said that when his wife told him about the idea he thought to himself no one in South Africa or the world has ever thought about something like this.
“It was so unselfish of her to give up her one day that she has been dreaming about to help 10 other mommies who needed the support and day more than her. We prayed about it and knew God would somehow align the correct people.”
Lee even suggested that Teneal start a foundation just for moms who need support welcoming their babies across the country.
“Just knowing that the mother of my firstborn came up with an idea that inspired a nation is beyond beautiful,” he added.
Speaking on their own pregnancy journey, Lee said that it has not been smooth.
“We came from a traumatic experience where we had to fight the world. We lost a baby and went through the worst pain ever when we thought we wouldn’t be able to conceive. We got our little miracle after one year of trying and praying,” he said.
“This is the most unexpected blessing ever. I couldn’t believe that I was pregnant. We didn’t even want to wait for the blood test results; we went straight to the doctor for a scan to see it, because we didn’t believe the two lines after 10 negative tests and almost giving up, we got one positive result,” Teneal added.
The parents-to-be extended their deepest gratitude to the different sponsors who have decided to get on-board and make their wish a reality.
“We are going to make history on the 26th of November; to our social media family we just want to say thank you for the love and support. You can follow our journey on Tik Tok @bouggeeboo, or on Facebook and DM us if you ever want to get on board with one of our projects or require assistance.”
To other expecting fathers, Lee concluded, saying, “Be there for your wife/partner; carry the load while she carries your legacy. I realised how important support is for my wife during this time. I do the dishes, washing, cleaning; I massage her feet, make her breakfast every morning without fail, because she is carrying precious cargo. Being there emotionally and physically for the mother of your child is the greatest responsibility you have.”
