The ISUZU IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 African Championships will once again be taking place at Hobie Beach in Nelson Mandela Bay this coming Sunday, March 5, 2023.
This means that motorists and beachgoers are cautioned to be on the lookout for athletes taking part in the event as well as road closures in certain areas of the Bay.
The triathlon, that includes a 3.8km swim (1.9km for IRONMAN 70.3), 180km bike ride (90.1km for IRONMAN 70.3) and a 42.2km run (21.1km for IRONMAN 70.3) will be attracting thousands of athletes from all around the world.
Registration for the race has been taking place since Thursday, with athletes having time until tomorrow, March 4, to register at The Boardwalk Hotel between 08:00 and 13:00.
According to the EC forecasting desk at the South African Weather Service, race day might be wet with showers and thundershowers expected in the afternoon with possible heavier falls.
"On Saturday, we expect some light rainfall and showers in the evening but nothing significant. The main concern at this stage is lightning on Sunday. Light rain may also be possible from early morning," said Kevin Ingram from the EC forecasting desk.
The wind speed is expected to decrease tomorrow night, however, will increase again on Sunday afternoon to approximately 15 to 25 knots, becoming southeasterly at times.
"For marine, two to three metre swells with a southerly to southwesterly direction, increasing to three to four metres by late afternoon, is expected on Sunday."
