The Eco-Logic Awards recognise individuals, organisations and communities that positively contribute towards a sustainable world – and encourage consumers to purchase their products and services. The Enviropaedia established the Annual Eco-Logic Awards 12 years ago. It has since grown into South Africa’s most glamorous green eco-calendar event.
Innovative costumes and acknowledging those preserving the environment were the order of the day during the annual Eco-Logic Awards held at the Two Oceans Aquarium on Thursday 9 November.
The awards recognise individuals, organisations and communities that positively contribute towards a sustainable world – and encourage consumers to purchase their products and services.
The Enviropaedia established the Annual Eco-Logic Awards 12 years ago.
It has since grown into South Africa’s most glamorous green eco-calendar event.
Each year, the public is requested to nominate their Eco-Champions, highlighting how they contribute to an ‘Eco-Logically’ sustainable society and environment.
There are 12 environmental categories to enter. This includes the nature conservation award, the water conservation award, the eco-friendly home products award, and the eco-angel award among others.
David Parry-Davies, editor of The Enviropaedia and founder of the Eco-Logic Awards, says: “Each year it becomes increasingly important and effective for us as individuals to play our part and contribute to solving today’s environmental challenges, and we can do this by leveraging our consumer spending power and supporting those that are committed to building a sustainable society and environment.”
Sisters Natalie and Kim Ellis from The Joinery won the Eco-Fashion and Lifestyle award.
The Joinery was founded in 2011 and aims to reduce waste by repurposing recycled plastic bottles into luxury products.
Upon accepting the award Natalie says: “You can make a difference through design. This award is for everyone that believed in us over the last 12 years. We are almost on one million plastic bottles. We create products that really make a difference. We have women who make our products, and we would like to say thank you to them.”
All Rise Attorneys, a non-profit organisation and registered law clinic for climate and environmental justice, won the eco-warriors category.
Janice Tooley, an attorney at All Rise Attorneys, accepted the award and said: “It’s a real honour, we are so busy doing our work, so sometimes it’s nice to stand back and reflect. It makes us want to do more. We have a wonderful country and environmental laws, but we need more awareness and we need to exercise them because time is running out and we need to protect what we have because we all depend on it.”
