One of the two men arrested in connection with the murder of popular Claremont waiter Raymond Matusa (37) has been released on bail.
Lindsay Francis (34) from Capricorn and 58-year-old Steven Jacobs from Manenberg appeared in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 16 November. The pair had been arrested on the same day of the murder of Matusa, a Zimbabwean national, Thursday 24 August, in Claremont.
What led to their arrest at Cavendish Square Shopping Centre was when one of the men was seen wearing a jacket recognised as Matusa’s.
His lifeless body was later discovered in Frederick Road (“Jacket links two men to murder”, People’s Post, 29 August 2023).
They have since been remanded in custody.
Following their latest court appearance, Claremont Police Station Vispol commander Lt Col Marnus Fourie told People’s Post one suspect had been granted bail.
The accused pleaded not guilty.
Fourie could not confirm the details of the suspect who was granted bail.
Attempts were made to confirm the exact details of the latest developments in this trial.
However, feedback had not been received from the Western Cape National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) or Claremont police by the time of publishing.
Eric Ntabazalila, spokesperson for the NPA in the province told People’s Post on Monday, 20 November, that he was in court and was therefore not available to provide any information.
