Hosting its annual awards presentation on Saturday 25 November at the Duinefontein Community Centre, the Phoenix Netball Club recognised top achievers from its A and B teams.

Founded in 2015, Phoenix Netball Club in Manenberg has 55 players ranging in age from u-9s to 15.

Hosting its annual awards presentation on Saturday 25 November at the Duinefontein Community Centre, the club recognised top achievers from its A and B teams.

Carol Cloete, the founder and director of the club, says sport instils discipline through regular training, practice and adherence to rules. “I personally believe sports to be a way out and breaking the current norms we see on a daily basis, especially within Manenberg. With so many opportunities for young people to fall into gang violence and drug abuse, we as Phoenix stand in the gap and say no,” she says.

“The discipline cultivated through sports helps individuals develop good habits, such as time management, setting goals, and maintaining a balanced lifestyle. These habits, in turn, contribute to personal growth, productivity, and overall well-being.”

The club thanked Ward 46 councillor Aslam Cassiem for the assistance and donation of bags to the players.
