Law enforcement officials confirmed on Thursday (15 July) that the situation in Vrygrond is under control.
Last night, on Wednesday 14 July just before 22:00, Vrygrond residents began protesting on the M5 between Vrygrond Avenue and Capricorn Park.
According to Ward 64 councillor Aimee Kuhl's sources, it began in response to enforcement staff removing structures that were allegedly built in violation of a court interdict.
"The protesters then attempted to turn that to their advantage and use the opportunity to loot Capricorn Park but they were successfully blocked by police, metro police and law enforcement."
The situation was brought under control quickly.
The councillor is currently in talks with Muizenberg police's station commander and will provide updates on the situation.
Meanwhile, the City of Cape Town’s Mayco member for safety and security JP Smith released a statement regarding the protest.
"City staff and police did attend to a protest in Vrygrond last night. The protest was in response to the prevention of unlawful occupation, in violation of a court order. The protestors then attempted to turn that to their advantage and use the opportunity to attack Capricorn Park, but they were successfully blocked by police, [the City's] metro police and law enforcement."
Vrygrond has remained quiet since calm was brought to the area last night.
