Another man has been shot and killed in Kalksteenfontein over the weekend after eight people were shot and two died in a mass shooting last week.

According to Sgt Samantha Adonis, police spokesperson, on Sunday just before 18:00 the Bishop Lavis police were called out to an incident. “Upon their arrival they found a 28-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head. Shortly after the ambulance arrived and transported the man to hospital where he succumbed to his wound,” says Adonis.

He says it is believed that the man visited his friend when the two suspects entered the wendy house and just went straight to the deceased and fired one shot at him. They then left the crime scene on foot. A murder case was opened and is under investigation,” says Adonis.

The community of Kalkfontein has been under siege for a while now as opposing gangs fight for drug turf. So desperate is the situation that residents are now contemplating fleeing the area. One woman wrote on Facebook that if she could, she will take her family and move out of Kalksteenfontein. “I want to move to where there is peace and quiet, because Kalksteenfontein has become a blood bath. Nobody does anything, everyone is scared. Together we need to get rid of the gangs,” writes the resident.
