A pastor in Bishop Lavis has written a book which, he said, he wrote to encourage people who had suffered losses in life just as he had.

Ettiene Fritz said anyone who suffered a loss would benefit from his book, Resilience. “Over the past few years I have gone through many losses,” he said. “After losing my parents, my only brother as well as my wife, it was my faith in God that carried me through. I felt a great need to write this book as many people in my immediate circle had gone through similar and even worse situations. I am aware of the fact that many are still stuck in their place of loss and grief and may not know how to navigate their way to a better tomorrow. This book is an attempt to help people find their way through their painful circumstances as I believe we can use pain as a womb to birth new things in life.”

Overcome challenges

According to Fritz, the book has a strong biblical focus, taking in key figures such as David, the Israelites, Hannah and Joseph, and teaches the importance of resilience and courage in overcoming challenges. “I also briefly reflect on my journey of loss throughout the book and show the reader how I coped,” he said. “I address the need for being courageous in hard times, which demands a lot from people. Mental pressure and hard times have become synonymous with the days which we are living in, so some inspiration and advice are surely needed.

Find comfort

“Hopefully, anybody who has suffered any type of loss, whether it be a car, house, estate, business or a loved one will find comfort and direction by reading this book. It is for those who desire to get their lives back on track. This is a book for this time, as many in this post pandemic society are still battling to come to terms with all the loss and merciless ruin we all have suffered over the past few years. I hope this book inspires others to move forward despite adversity. I aim to bring the reader to a place where they seek God’s guidance, instead of questioning his plan.” The father of two lost his wife of 18 years in January 2021. In November 2022 he married Sandra, with whom he is striving to build a meaningful life.
