The investigating team at Kraaifontein police secured a conviction of the man responsible for the 2017 hijacking and murder of Mamelo Maloi.
The Bluedowns Magistrates’ Court sentenced Xola Nikelo (27) to 25 years direct imprisonment on the murder count, and 10 years for aggravated robbery (hijacking).
On Thursday 21 September 2017 at 21:59, Maloi was hijacked and shot dead on the scene.
“Within 15 minutes after the commission of the crime, the hijacked vehicle was spotted by vigilant police officers on patrol in the Philippi East policing precinct. They recovered the vehicle and arrested Nikelo on charges of murder and aggravated robbery,” says police spokesperson Anelisiwe Manyana.
Western Cape Commissioner Thembisile Patekile applauded the investigating team.
