Five part-time CPUT students want to renovate the learner’s toilets at Filia School in Goodwood, but they need funding.
These students are pursuing an Advanced Diploma in Operations Management at CPUT.
As part of their curriculum, they are required to undertake a community project.
“We chose Filia School when we learned that it was an all-inclusive school, and our commitment to this endeavour deepened. Enhancing the school environment for its students holds significant meaning for us,” says Genevieve Ratties, the project leader.
Filia School is a special school for severely intellectually and physically disabled children of all races, between the ages of 3 and 21.
According to Ratties, the group named their project “Colours With Care” due to its clarity and directness.
“We intend to rejuvenate the bathroom with vibrant and bold colours, creating a sanctuary for students to momentarily escape from reality. Our overarching goal is to engage significant organisations to demonstrate our care and appreciation for both students and teachers, but regrettably, we encountered challenges in this pursuit,” says Ratties.

The group humbly request the support of local businesses in the area to contribute the necessary items to fulfil their project. However, they cannot accept money.
But donations in the form of paint, painting supplies, equipment, PPE, refreshments, etc. will aid them in this meaningful endeavour.
Ratties said they have requested paint from various hardware stores and big supermarkets, but to no avail. “Indawo, unfortunately, has advised that their social responsibility budget is depleted and will only be able to assist next year, unfortunately, this project is due for this year.”
