Wrestlers from across the country descended on Parow recently to decide who is the champion and titleholder of the sought-after Golden Ticket.
The wrestling event, titled House of Pain, is organised by former wrestler Shaun Koen.
The competition is one of the biggest events on the South African Pro-Wrestling calendar.
The wrestling competition was held at the Parow Civic Centre on Saturday 27 June.
The event consisted of six gruelling matches, with the main event being the Golden Ticket Battle Royale, which saw 20 wrestlers competing for the Golden Ticket, which grants the victor the opportunity to challenge any wrestler to any match of their choosing.
The Golden Ticket is a very coveted prize in the Africa Wrestling Alliance (AWA), and it even caught the attention of Johannesburg-based wrestler, the Loudmouth, who flew down to compete for the opportunity to win this highly regarded prize, said Koen.
Local wins the title
The winner of this year’s Golden Ticket Battle Royale was the young up and coming wrestler Ultimo Wulf from Bellville.
“Although he lost his match earlier in the evening against another young wrestler from the AWA School of Hard Knocks, crowd favourite Good Time Kid, he was able to beat the 19 other wrestlers to claim the Golden Ticket. Both youngsters put on an electric match that had the crowd on their feet and it was a very hard-fought contest. It is still uncertain who Ultimo Wulf plans to challenge at an upcoming House of Pain event when he cashes in his Golden Ticket,” explained Koen.
Another highlight of the event was the matches that determined the number-one contender for the next House of Pain event: The Night of Champions.
Main event in October
Koen said the main event will be for the AWA All Africa Heavyweight Championship which will see challenger Mike Xander from Lansdowne take on Congo King from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Xander has competed internationally for other promotions and is a very accomplished professional wrestler and Congo King has held the championship for several years under the guidance of his manager, Christopher Montgomery.
“Xander promises his fans that in October he will defeat Congo King and bring the AWA All Africa Heavyweight Championship back to South Africa.”
The House of Pain: Night of Champions takes place on 3 October again at the Parow Civic Centre. Another upcoming AWA event includes a fundraiser at Brackenfell High School on 25 August.
“Follow us on social media for any further updates and announcements,” said Koen.
