In what Lusindiso Somagaca, founder of the Lusindiso Gospel Singers, describes as a dream or vision he had back in 2008, he was walking in a street in Swaziland and heard the beautiful sound of a piano gently being played.

“I went on, following the sound, and as I approached this rondavel house, I stood at the half -opened door, looked inside, and I was shocked to see who was playing the keyboard,” Somagaca said. The man responsible for the melodic tunes was founder of the Ncandweni Christ Ambassadors,Timothy Myeni.

“He looked at me and smiled, then asked whether I was just listening, or whether I wanted to play a song. I then responded that I wanted to sing and play,” Somagaca explained.

In the dream, Myeni stood up, took Somagaca’s right hand, and showed him the chords he was playing.

Together we sang a song that I had never heard in all of his albums. This is how I received the blessing of writing songs and playing the keyboard. So, starting the Lusindiso Gospel Singers group was to thank and praise God, and to show the people how Great His Name is.

The group is based in Kariega and has six members, with its youngest member being 27 years old, and the oldest 41 years old. “We are also looking for more members for the group,” Somagaca added.

They meet twice to three times a week at the leader’s house in Kariega. There, they do more than just singing, as their ministry is not just about singing beautiful music, but it is also about uplifting each other, and feeding each other’s spiritual lives. “Our absolute favourite thing about being part of this group is preaching of the Word of God; we love music and we met in one vision to sing for the Lord, and bring all the souls we have access to closer to Him,” the soft-spoken leader said.

Lusindiso Gospel Singers have had many special performances, but Somogaca says their most memorable one yet is a recent one. “Early in December last year we were invited to sing for Apostle MJ Mohlala at the Shekainah Healing Ministries, which was held in Motherwell, Gqeberha. It was an experience that we will never forget, seeing his congregation rejoicing singing with us, was like a dream come true. That’s what we always aim at, to enrich people’s lives and bring healing and hope through our music. Of course, when we are on that stage, and see how well people take in the music, and you can see the happiness on their faces; it is the most rewarding feeling,” he said.

This year Lusindiso Gospel Singers plan on releasing a second album, “and in March we are releasing our music video for our single, He Touched Me, which is already out. We mostly want the group to be recognised and known by people all over the world, to appear on television shows and newspapers such as the UD Express which is so loved by our community, to continue getting booked for big stages.

Our single is already doing so well on digital platforms, and we only have God to thank for that. We pray that He continues to guide and direct us; we want Him to take full control and use us as His vessels to preach His Gospel far and wide,” Somagaca concluded.
