When it comes to achieving her dreams, nothing can stop young Shauntay Daniels from Kariega.

Although she had not always dreamed of becoming a beauty queen, when Daniels did eventually get into the industry, she found it more rewarding than what she had expected initially.

“The reason I started modelling is that I lost so much confidence in myself after I was in a tragic motor vehicle accident a few years ago. I broke my left femur, and came to a point where I even wanted to commit suicide because I went through a lot of emotional trauma and had several nightmares. It took a lot of prayer and faith to get me to where I am today,” the grateful 14-year-old said.

Daniels turned to modelling to regain the image she had of herself, and to inspire others with her story, much to her mother, Tarryn Forbes’ relief.

“My mother’s lifelong dream was always for me to follow in her footsteps of being a model. One day, to her surprise, I just went to modelling school with a friend of mine and ever since that day I have never looked back,” Daniels explained.

Throughout her schooling career, Daniels has been an overachiever. She attended Convent Primary R.C. School where she was selected as a prefect, and she is currently a Grade 8 learner at Uitenhage High School.

Daniels has numerous titles under her belt, including Trend Setter, “because I don’t follow trends, I set my own,” she confidently added. She’s been a top achiever in both national and international competitions, and was even elected by International Arts Talent Showcase to walk in a fashion show in New York, in the United States of America.

Her pageant titles include Pre- Teen Miss PE 2024 2nd Princess, National Miss Mandela Day Queen 2024 and she is the reigning Miss Pre -Teen Eastern Cape 2024.

“I have been selected by R Model Management and Agency to represent Uitenhage High School in the 2024 Mr & Miss Inter- Schools Nelson Mandela Day Pageant. This is an absolute honour for me, because I represent a community of people who might not have much, but are resilient and hardworking. The people of Kariega, and South Africa inspire me every day,” the beauty queen concluded.
