A 36-year-old Kariega man was beaten to death in the vicinity of a hotel in Gibbon Street at the weekend. Two people have been arrested in the meantime.

The victim, Tarquin Booysen, was allegedly in proximity of the hotel at approximately 04:00 during the early hours of yesterday morning, August 7, when the incident took place.

It is alleged that Booysen and one of the two suspects had an argument when a fight broke out between him and both assailants, leading to Booysen being severely assaulted.

He passed away at the scene.

Police spokesperson, Capt. Gerda Swart, said that Booysen had been kicked and beaten with fists. "The two suspects were arrested soon afterwards, when police were informed about the incident. The motive for the murder is yet to be established and police investigations are continuing," Swart said.

The suspects, 20-year-old Trenton du Plessis and Enzio Toring (29) appeared in the Kariega Magistrates Court this morning, August 8, in connection with the murder.

The matter was postponed to Wednesday for a formal bail application. The two remain in custody.
