A local young talented Golf RSA and South African Golf Development Board golf player, Johndré Ludick, once again rose to the occasion by finishing as runner up in the largest amateur tournament in the Eastern Cape.
The EP Amateur Matchplay was played at the Wedgewood Golf Estate Gqeberha on 21, 22, 28 and 29 January. Johndré displayed true maturity and determination in beating players like Rowlin Adonis, Pieter Zietsman and Bazil Coenraad en route to the cup final where he was beaten by worthy winner Naldo Claassen from Humewood Golf Club.
“Johndré came up against one of our most experienced and seasoned campaigners in Naldo Claassen and the spirit in which the final was played should be commended,” said Frans de Kock, manager: South African Golf Development Board (Eastern Cape).
“As a player from the SAGDB program Johndré is a true role model for other historically disadvantaged players, and it gave me goosebumps watching him perform at this level. He sure has a cool head on his shoulders and if he keeps his feet grounded, I believe he will bring it far one day.
“It is of utmost importance that with all the opportunities and support he gets to make sure he uses it to the best of his abilities. Hard work always beats talent when talent fails to work hard,” said De Kock.
Devon Valentine, Johndré Ludick, Esona Mlandeli and Othimna Matiwana were the development players in the team of eight that represented EP U/19 in the B division at Mbombela Golf Club during December 2022.
The team won all their games and was unbeaten for the tournament and has been promoted to the A section for 2023.
“A big thank you must go to Gerhard Hills who has been the manager of this team and is always willing to support our players.
“As development manager I look forward to the new season and with all the challenges we will always strive to make the best of every opportunity to grow the game and build the nation,” said De Kock.
