It’s been years since Suzelle DIY had the whole country laughing with her hilarious braai pie video, and it’s become a local braai institution in many iterations. These small bite-sized numbers freeze well and are easier to braai than the larger versions.

1 Roll out the puff pastry and cut it into 12 equal squares. Paint the edges of the squares with egg and then add a teaspoon of cream cheese, a sprinkle of biltong shavings and a few slivers of green fig in the middle of each square.

2 Carefully fold each dough square over the filling into a triangle and pinch along the edges to seal it. If you’re not going to braai right away, freeze the pies on baking sheets until they’re frozen solid, then pack in airtight containers that are easy to transport. Thaw the pies before braaiing – they can still be cold, but not frozen.
