A tent is a marvellous, simple thing. Toast Coetzer remembers some spots where his fold-up home has been.

During my first few years as a travel journalist, I didn’t own a tent, and I often had to borrow one from a friend. Everything went well until this tent “disappeared” once next to the Pongolapoort Dam outside Jozini.

I thought it was stolen at first but spotted it the next morning floating about 100 m away in the dam. The wind was the thief.
