South Africa’s coins have a new look: Coins bearing the imprints of whales, turacos and bees have been floating around the money market since 1 January 2023.
Cabinet approved the coins as legal tender in September 2022.
In addition to the new animals that now grace our coins, “South Africa” will be printed on each piece in all the official languages, with one new language being phased in every year.
