With South Africa's history of failed peace initiatives, its partisan stance towards Palestine to the annoyance of Israel, and its active steps to publicly condemn the Zionist state at every turn, it is unlikely to near-impossible that South Africa might be able to impact any current peace process.

Professor Ran Greenstein, of the sociology department at Wits University, says:

He adds: "They perceive South Africa as standing entirely on the side of Palestinians (not only the Palestinian Authority but Hamas as well), and so have no interest in getting any help from this side."
