Former Eskom CEO André de Ruyter's newly released book represents the most scathing account of chronic corruption, sabotage and incompetence about the utility that has ever been published in its 100-year history, and especially under ANC rule, writes Ebrahim Harvey.

There can be no doubt whatsoever that despite some glaring ideological confusion in his understanding, especially about the ridiculous claim that the ANC is "socialist" or "communist", a book by former CEO of Eskom, André de Ruyter, Truth to Power: My Three Years Inside Eskom, released earlier this week, is going to not only ruffle feathers in the party, but have massive repercussions inside Eskom and across South African society. There are several reasons for this conclusion.

The dramatic and unprecedented claims of corruption and incompetence, with some shocking details, De Ruyter bravely makes in his book, which adds considerable grist to the mill of the now publicly known shenanigans inside Eskom, is going to serve to deepen and worsen the crisis in it most probably.
