Voters form a bond with political parties based on history, ideology, hopes and fears and not just the need for services, writes Mbhazima Shilowa.
Many moons ago, I used to attend football matches with a bunch of Kaizer Chiefs supporters. We used to take our pride of place by the scoreboard at the old Orlando Stadium.
I know it sounds so ancient, but maybe it is because, in reality, I have not set foot at Orlando Stadium or sat with that bunch since 1989. The only other time I went to Orlando Stadium other than during political or government rallies was during the National Peace Accord negotiations when I tried my hand at playing football with such notables as Patrick "Ace" Ntsoelengoe and Matsilele "Jomo" Sono and some warlords from the IFP.
