A recent case study of the AIC trading on the ANC's name makes it clear that parties plagiarise with the intention of getting votes at the expense of others, writes Mcebisi Ndletyana as he reflects on the choice of the name of a political party that has the backing of Jacob Zuma.
The deadline is fast approaching for the newly formed political party, uMkhonto WeSizwe. The ANC issued the party with an ultimatum: drop the name or face legal action.
Formed by one Jabulani Khumalo, with Jacob Zuma's support, the name and logo of the party are synonymous with the ANC. They have until 29 December to respond. It doesn't look like Khumalo is about to budge. I'd be surprised if he did. Their very existence is a defiant act intended to spite the ANC. Having founded their party, knowing that their name and logo would irk the ANC, they're not about to cave in to threats. After all, they're supposed to be a militant bunch that fears nothing.
