Seasoned financial journalist Helena Wasserman has been appointed the new editor of Fin24.

Wasserman joins Fin24 from her former position as the inaugural editor of Business Insider SA after the departure of Ron Derby, who takes over the reins at the Mail & Guardian.

Wasserman comes with more than 20 years of experience at some of the country's leading business titles, including Finweek, Fin24 and Sake24.

Under her guidance, Business Insider SA quickly grew into one of the top three digital financial publications in the country since its launch in 2018.

"Joining Fin24 at such an exciting time is an honour," says Wasserman. "This is a time of great transformation in business, and serving such a large audience with breaking news, and equipping them with in-depth analysis about the fast-changing financial world is a thrilling prospect."

"The media itself is also evolving, and I hope to help Fin24 build on its great success in gaining a subscription audience."

Wasserman joins a strong team of experienced financial journalists who cover a wide range of industries. "I look forward to working with the talented Fin24 team, who I greatly respect for their excellent reporting."

"Helena brings years of experience, business acumen and flair to Fin24," said News24 editor-in-chief Adriaan Basson. "She is the perfect editor for Fin24, that is leading the way with our coverage of business, the political economy and corporate malfeasance."

Business Insider SA deputy editor Phillip de Wet will take over as acting editor of the publication.
