4 Things we’re looking forward to with the end of 2020

There’s no denying that 2020 was a force to be reckoned with - from earthquakes, political memes, staying home and the meteoric rise of TikTok to help people feel more connected.

It’s safe to say, that after this past year, we’re all looking to have a kinder, lighter end of this year and into 2021.

Here are four things we’re looking forward to as the year ends:

Spending time with our loved ones

One of the main social impacts we felt this year was not being able to see those nearest and dearest to us as frequently as we would have liked. It’s given us a whole new perspective and value for the time we spend with family and friends. In the past, some might have moaned about extended family time, but after a crazy couple of months - we’re looking forward to spending the festive season laughing and catching up with close friends and family over a lekker Christmas or NYE spread.

Separating our home, work, and school lives

Another thing 2020 changed the course of is how we partition our professional and personal lives. This year brought work and school lives under the same roofs as our personal lives. Students had to figure out a balance between relaxation and studies, parents had to start wearing several hats in one space, and many felt the burden of unsteady economies. As we slowly meander our way back to a sense of normalcy and head back to separating these spheres of our lives – we’re looking forward to re-aligning our work and home balance and regaining what may have been lost during this year.

Nature escapes and local getaways

It was hard not to feel a sense of itchy feet and cabin fever this rollercoaster of a year. We’re looking forward to grounding ourselves and soaking up the most of local travel that we otherwise take for granted. South Africa is bustling with nature reserves, riverside lodges, and woodland escapes tucked away along our dirt roads that have been beckoning with their fresh air and breath-taking views while we scrolled our phones couped up at home. Many local lodges and resorts have also been offering exciting deals and competitions on social media that I’m sure we’re all keen to take advantage this summer while supporting our local hospitality industry.

Treating ourselves to great tech deals this Christmas

With working and learning from home this year, we realised the value of our devices - particularly their speed, storage, and battery lives. We need devices capable of not only storing our home and professional lives, but ones that are fast-working and long-lasting – as we’re more dependent on our devices than ever since 2020 arrived. So, we’re looking forward to capitalising on some exciting tech deals coming out as Black Friday and Christmas inches closer.

Tech companies, like the Chinese tech giant HUAWEI, have heard their clients’ needs during this year and are preparing some exciting, budget-friendly launches. HUAWEI’s newest launch coming up, the P Smart 2021, is the ultimate WFH (work-from-home) buddy. Launching on 7 November, the device is kitted out with exciting features from an alluring 48MP quad-camera with AI featured to capture family moments with ease to an impressive 5000 mAh battery power to keep you going from working to streaming.

Other exciting features the HUAWEI P Smart 2021 is promising includes:

- A storage capacity of up to 128GB that can be extended to 512GB with an external card

- 22.5W HUAWEI SuperCharge capabilities to power the 5000 mAh battery

- An 8MP selfie cam for crisp lockdown TikToks

- And a vibrant and sleek 6.67” display with an ‘Eye Comfort’ brightness mode for night-use

Alongside these, the device will also be featuring HUAWEI’s Smart Life software with EMUI 10.1. This includes HUAWEI’s new video calling service MeeTime, allowing you to stay connected with work and friends seamlessly. It also allows you to take screenshots with your knuckles! How this works is to take a screenshot a single tap of your knuckle on the screen will do. You can also take rolling screenshots by swiping - which is ideal for work or studies. Or you can take sectional or multi-shape screenshots and activate a screen recording by double-tapping your knuckle. This software update will also give users the chance to multitask with its Multi-Window feature ideal for balancing work and school tasks, and allow you to edit your captured moments onto Smart Collages without needing a third-party app.

And that's not all - HUAWEI will be announcing even more cool features and the price for the P Smart 2021 around its launch date, 7 November, so stay tuned as we eagerly await what else lies in store.
