Over the past two years, South Africans have endured three lockdowns. And while we got better at it – from normalizing remote work to stocking up on enough beer to see us through – one of the things we missed the most was heading down to the local and having the barman pull and pass us a cold draught.
With extended alcohol restrictions in place, the Cape Brewing Company found itself with time and capacity on its hands – so they decided to use the opportunity and create something rather special.
During the latest lockdown the Paarl-based brewing company built the CBC Mini-Bar: a portable pub. Complete with two beer taps filled with CBC’s iconic premium beer, the CBC Mini-Bar is cozy and ambient but also surprisingly spacious, with enough capacity both inside and outside the bar to host a handful of friends in a safe, well-ventilated and socially distanced environment.
“Because you couldn’t get to a pub during lockdown,” says CBC COO Andy Kung, “we decided to bring the pub to you.”
From October 2021, South Africans are being invited to enter a competition to win a CBC Mini-Bar experience. Winners will be selected and the CBC Mini-Bar will be driven to their home or a suitable location close to them, and they will enjoy a day at the bar-on-wheels with a few friends.
The exclusive experience will include entertainment that would typically be found in a pub, such as a small band playing an intimate gig and stand-up comedy. These will be live-streamed to CBC’s social media fans.
“The CBC Mini-Bar is the most independent bar in the world,” says CBC Marketing Director Ross Young. “It is a truly unique activation that reflects our core values of superior quality and passionate independence. We’re incredibly excited to bring the CBC Mini-Bar experience to our loyal customers and valued supporters.”
