Mediclinic’s ever-expanding continuum of care took another important step into the future with the launch of a world-class, all-in-one oncology unit at Mediclinic Constantiaberg.
In association with Icon Oncology and network oncologists Cancercare, the unit is housed at Mediclinic Constantiaberg and brings together specialist oncologists, next-generation precision radiotherapy technology and in-house chemotherapy care treatments all under one roof.
Whereas traditional models of cancer treatment involve patients travelling to separate facilities for consultations, surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, this one-stop oncology unit promises to significantly enhance the cancer patient’s journey by reconciling separate steps and treatments into a single, efficient and streamlined process.
The unit’s primary goal: to enhance the patient experience, add value at each step of the treatment process, and ultimately, improve clinical outcomes.

Dr Georgina McAdam, one of the experienced oncologists on site, is excited about the new environment and the opportunity it brings to work closer as a multidisciplinary team. “This new partnership has empowered us to offer a truly holistic and inclusive service. Here, under one roof, we have surgeons, radiologists, physicians, together with a host of crucial allied health professionals, and together we focus on facilitating an optimal treatment journey.”
“Ideally, the cancer journey should be facilitated by multidisciplinary meetings between the surgeon, the radiologist, the oncologist, and many others,” agrees Dr Jill Harris. “Here, we can focus on providing a completely integrated treatment process. Because cancer treatment can continue for many years, we want to form a close and lifelong bond with our patients. We get to know our patients very well, and they get to know us.”
That relationship is enhanced by the introduction of truly world-class technology, says Dr Garth Davids. “In the past few years cancer care has taken a few giant leaps forward, and this facility reflects that progress,” he explains. “We’ve recently installed a Varian Truebeam linear accelerator, which has the ability to deliver very precise radiotherapy treatments. This is through what we call stereotactic radiotherapy: very focused doses of radiation that precisely target tumours while simultaneously sparing surrounding tissue.”
