Don Julio transcends its status as a luxury tequila brand, it has become a symbol of global celebration and sophistication. It is the go-to for those who appreciate the finer things in life, from global starlets to discerning aficionados. With its distinctive bottle featuring the agave leaf, it exudes an aura of luxury and cultural significance that resonates with discerning enthusiasts worldwide.

The celebrated spirit of Mexico holds a special place in the hearts of connoisseurs worldwide and among the plethora of tequilas available, Don Julio stands out as the epitome of excellence, tradition, and heritage. With its incomparable craftsmanship and uncompromising quality and excellent range that features Don Julio Blanco, Reposado and Anejo. Don Julio has solidified its position as the quintessential tequila brand, exemplified by its signature cocktail – the Don Margarita.

The Don Margarita – a tribute to the legacy of Don Julio – embodies the essence of summer and the vibrant heritage of South Africa. Mpimy Mashimbye, Don Julio's Brand Manager, Mashimbye, describes it as more than just a cocktail but a work of art that only a few have mastered. “The magic of the Don Margarita lies in the mixologist's careful fusion of Don Julio Blanco, orange liqueur, fresh lime juice, enticing tahini spice, and agave syrup in precise measures. The result? A symphony of flavours, akin to the South African summer, that truly brings the citrus notes of Don Julio Blanco to life.”

However, the allure of Don Julio extends beyond the Don Margarita, as a new addition is set to grace the South African market: Don Julio Cristalino 70. This glamorous variant represents a fusion of aged tequilas with the clarity of a Cristalino expression.

Cristalino, derived from the Spanish word for "crystalline," refers to oak-aged tequila subjected to charcoal filtration. Typically boasting a pristine clarity, reminiscent of its name, though occasionally displaying subtle hues. This method resembles the treatment of certain white rums, where ageing in barrels is followed by colour filtration. The first commercial Cristalino was launched in 2012 by Don Julio. “The ageing process contributes to creating a well-balanced and nuanced flavour profile, while the Cristalino filtration ensures a clean and crisp finish”, explains Mashimbye.

Don Julio Cristalino 70 has notes of vanilla, caramel, oak, and agave, with a hint of spice. This luxury offering will join the esteemed trio of the Don Julio Blanco, Reposado and Anejo in the local market.

While South African consumers await the arrival of Cristalino 70, they can still enjoy a glass of the perfect cocktail for any occasion with this recipe:
