Come on, be bold, and join SA Olive in the rEVOOlution! This is your call to action. Supporting extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) is on everyone’s lips – especially South African EVOO. The rewards are big and the rEVOOlution has no casualties. Why? Because EVOO is really good for you.

Everyone has been there before: standing in that particular supermarket aisle, looking to buy a bottle of cooking oil, and suddenly feeling an incredible rush of uncertainty at the mere sight of all the different cooking oil options on display. You then ask yourself, “What do I actually need the oil for?” The answer more often than not: “For everything – to cook, bake, fry, deep fry, and maybe drizzle too …” And then you just stand there staring, wishing for some kind of sign to magically appear and show you exactly which bottle to choose. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?

Well, here is some very good news! Such a “sign” actually does exist, and it comes in the form of the SA Olive CTC seal. This seal is a “stamp of approval” placed on all extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) bottles that have gone through the voluntary integrity-based scheme managed by SA Olive for locally produced EVOO.

The CTC seal on a bottle of EVOO serves as assurance to the consumer that the producer is “committed to compliance” in quality olive oil production, the EVOO is 100% locally (South African) produced and is authentic extra virgin olive oil.

So, now you know how to purchase the correct bottle of top-quality EVOO. However, did you know that contrary to popular belief, EVOO is perfect for cooking? It is completely suitable for sautéing, deep frying, and baking as it has a smoke point of between 200 and 220°C, which is higher than most cooking temperatures.

If you are inspired to try some dishes using EVOO, check out a selection of amazing recipes here. From starters, to mains, to desserts, EVOO is perfect for any dish, and any course.

In addition to EVOO being great for cooking, it has amazing health benefits too.

In addition to EVOO being great for cooking, here are some other amazing EVOO facts to keep in mind.

• EVOO has great health benefits. Numerous medical studies confirm that regular consumption of EVOO can aid in cancer prevention, particularly breast and colon cancer. Also, a Mediterranean diet where around 1–2 tablespoons of olive oil are consumed daily, has been proven to reduce the risks of imbalanced cholesterol and irregular circulation.

• Olive oil has benefits for external use too. It is valued for its use in beauty therapies, skincare products and soaps, as well as a hair conditioner.

• EVOO is free of any defects. It is produced only by mechanical extraction methods, with no other treatment or additives. It is essentially fresh olive juice.

• EVOO in a bottle usually has a shelf life of around 18–24 months, if stored away from light, air and heat.
