Petal Search recently launched on new Huawei devices in South Africa.

Huawei recently announced the launch of its official search engine, Petal Search, for users in more than 170 countries and regions around the world. The new service, announced alongside the launch of the Mate 40 series in October, provides users with search capabilities to find apps, news, videos, images, shopping, flights, local businesses, and more.

Underpinned by the AI capabilities of Huawei devices, Petal Search stands out from other search engines through its ability to support visual searches. This feature enables users to search via photos they took or images in their gallery. Just like regular search engines recognise words, Petal Search recognises people, animals, landmarks, products and more. For instance, a user can simply take a photo of a dish and Petal Search will provide the recipe.

At present, Petal Search supports over 50 languages and supports voice search features for English, Spanish, French and Arabic. This aligns with Huawei’s vision of designing world-class devices that have a local touch. With the cooperation of global and local partners, Petal Search aims to leverage this localised approach by providing users with a rich location-based search experience. When users look up local content for example, Petal Search will provide them with personalised recommendations such as nearby restaurants, nearby attractions and shopping discounts in the area. South African apps that are currently available in Huawei’s Management System and the Petal Search include ABSA, Discovery Bank, DSTV Now, Showmax, Standard bank, Woolworth, Zando and SuperSport.

This year, more than ever, cybersecurity has jumped to the forefront of user concerns. Rest assured, Petal Search is compliant with security policies, laws, and regulations in every country it is available in. It is also certified with the ePrivacyseal data protection seal of approval. The search engine also provides a variety of search modes such as safe search and incognito mode for users to choose from.

Unlock the opportunities of Petal Search through devices in the Huawei Mate 40 series.
