South Africa's energy crisis formed a golden thread through several concerns international human rights watchdog Amnesty International raised about the country in its latest report on the global state of human rights.
The organisation flagged gender-based violence, service delivery failures including load shedding, controversial legislation such as the National Health Insurance (NHI) Bill and the General Intelligence Laws Amendment Bill (Gilab), and attempts to silence journalists in its report on South African human rights.
It released its The State of the World's Human Rights report this week after assessing the state of human rights in 155 countries.
