R20 million. That's how much the ANC-run KwaZulu-Natal government wants to pay for the glitzy South African Music Awards (SAMAs), which the provincial government hasn't budgeted for, News24 can reveal.
The awards are set to take place on the weekend of 17 and 18 November at the Durban ICC.
Though provincial government documents show that the Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) asked for R28 million, the department now says its "investment" in the SAMAs will cost only R20 million.
