No one must manipulate the Bible or the Torah to justify ethnic cleansing and the mass murder of people, said EFF leader Julius Malema as he introduced a motion to close the Israeli Embassy in South Africa to a mini-plenary of the National Assembly on Thursday.

Minutes later, coming out in defence of Israel, ACDP leader Kenneth Meshoe said God gave the land to Abraham and denied that Israel is practising apartheid.

On 7 October, Palestinian militants from Hamas took civilian hostages in an attack on Israel claiming 1 200 lives. In response, Israel has laid siege to Gaza and bombarded civilian targets.
