Despite an overhaul in electoral law to allow independent candidates to contest the elections, only six independent candidates qualified to contest for seats in the National Assembly, the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) said on Tuesday.
And, across the nine provincial legislatures, six independent candidates made it onto the ballot.
The candidates are Anele Mda, Lehlohonolo Ramoba, from Gauteng.
