Rise Mzansi leader Songezo Zibi warned that the DA's relentless attacks on opposition parties were "the worst kind of swart gevaar", which was reminiscent of the apartheid regime labelling freedom fighters as terrorists.
In response, DA leader John Steenhuisen upped the ante against his opponents.
Steenhuisen on Wednesday cautioned South Africans against voting for a "doomsday coalition" bloc, which could plunge South Africa "into another Zimbabwe".
