Gunmen who walked up to a vehicle before spraying it with bullets in broad daylight in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, on Thursday afternoon did not wear balaclavas, despite CCTV in the area, and walked away from the scene, according to eyewitnesses.

Two men in the vehicle died. A bus carrying students was caught in the crossfire; one student died, and another was injured.

A Braamfontein resident who witnessed the shooting said the area had become so riddled with crime that, apparently, no one flinched when the first two shots went off.
