The Cape Town Society for the Blind offers specialised programmes to upskill and train visually impaired people to boost their employability.

The organisation provides programmes which defy the stereotype that the blind and visually impaired can only do "audio jobs", like working in call centres and answering phones.

The African Journal of Disability reported in 2015 that 97% blind and visually impaired people in South Africa were unemployed - it is believed that it is still the case in 2024.
