The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) has announced a R40-million investment to reduce rhino poaching at a KwaZulu-Natal game reserve.
The funding will be focused on the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve, which recorded more than half of the country's poaching incidents last year, said Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment Minister Barbara Creecy.
"Due to the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Game Reserve becoming a rhino poaching hotspot, this year our department will support Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife to combat rhino poaching and related wildlife crimes. We will also invest R40 million to improve the boundary fencing as part of our assistance," said Creecy during her recent budget vote speech.
