A Limpopo man arrested for murder has been found hanging in a holding cell at the Thohoyandou police station.
Richard Azwindini Mamali's lifeless body was found on Thursday at about 05:00.
He had appeared in the local magistrate's court for the murder of his girlfriend, Ridodzula Mudzani, earlier this month.
Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said Mudzani was killed in Ha-Magidi Village on 3 September.
Mamali and Mudzani shared two children.
Ledwaba said the police also suspected Mamali was involved in the murder of a man who was killed a week after Mudzani's death.

He added investigating officers found Mamali's ID next to the dead man's body, initially giving the impression he was the dead man.
However, investigating officers later found the dead man's ID in his pocket.
The police arrested Mamali on Tuesday at his hideout in Mahwelereng, Mokopane, in the Waterberg District.
Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembi Hadebe said the Independent Police Investigative Directorate would probe the incident.
