Three people were arrested after protest action broke out in Sandton on Wednesday.
The protest led to a stand-off between security guards and construction workers.
A security guard was injured in an altercation between protesters and security guards, News24 previously reported. The protest was allegedly fuelled by a labour dispute over unpaid wages.
Workers claimed they had not been paid for two months.
Riaan Erasmus, CEO of security company Scorpion Risk Holdings, told News24 a security guard had been attacked and stabbed. He was rushed to hospital.
During the protest, a firearm and cellphone were stolen, and a security guard was assaulted, confirmed police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele.
The group of protesters blocked a contract site in Sandton over non-payment of their salaries, Makhubele said.
"Soon after the firearm was [taken] it was reported to the police, and a search operation was launched for the suspects...," Makhubele said.
"The three suspects were arrested after the incident on Wednesday in Alexandra. One suspect was found in possession of the robbed firearm and two others were arrested for assaulting the security guard," Makhubele said.
The three suspects are expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court on Friday.
