Tuesday's weather: Partly cloudy with thunderstorms in some parts of SA, otherwise warm to hot

The South African Weather Service has forecast a partly cloudy day with scattered to isolated rain and thunderstorms for the central and eastern parts of the country, but otherwise fine to warm and hot temperatures are expected. 

Fire danger warnings

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in places over the Northern Cape, the northern interior of the Eastern Cape, the central and western parts of the Free State, and the extreme south-western parts of the North West.

Advisories

A heatwave with persistently high temperatures is expected in parts of the North West, the Free State, and central and eastern parts of the Northern Cape until Wednesday, but until Friday over the north-eastern interior of the Eastern Cape.

The weather in your region

Gauteng will be partly cloudy with warm to hot temperatures and isolated evening thundershowers.

The expected UVB sunburn index is high.

Cloudy conditions are expected for Mpumalanga along the escarpment in the morning, with drizzle and fog patches. Otherwise, partly cloudy and warm to hot temperatures are forecast with isolated afternoon thundershowers on the Highveld.

Limpopo will also be cloudy along the escarpment in the morning, with drizzle and fog patches. Otherwise, partly cloudy and warm to hot conditions are expected with isolated thundershowers in the south from the afternoon.

Partly cloudy and hot to very hot temperatures are forecast in the North West with isolated afternoon thundershowers.

The Free State can expect fine and hot to very hot conditions, becoming partly cloudy in the east with isolated thundershowers.

Fine and hot to very hot, but extremely hot temperatures are forecast for the Northern Cape in the north. It will become partly cloudy with isolated afternoon thundershowers in the north.

The wind along the coast will be light and variable, but moderate to fresh southerly from the afternoon.

The Western Cape will have morning fog patches over the central interior and Overberg district. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy with warm to hot conditions, becoming cloudy along the south coast, with light rain over the eastern parts of the south coast in the evening.

It will be cool along the south-west and south coast.

The wind along the coast will be light and variable north of Cape Columbine and east of Stilbaai in the morning. Otherwise, a moderate to fresh south-easterly to southerly reaching strong along the south-west coast is expected.

The expected UVB sunburn index is very high.

The western half of the Eastern Cape can expect fine and warm temperatures, but it will be hot over the interior. It will become cloudy with light evening rain along the coast.

The wind along the coast will be a light south-westerly becoming light south-easterly in the afternoon.

Fine and warm to hot conditions are forecast for the eastern half of the province, becoming cloudy along the coast with light evening rain.

The wind along the coast will be a light northerly, becoming light south-easterly in the afternoon.

KwaZulu-Natal can expect cloudy conditions at first with morning fog patches over the interior. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers. It will be very hot in places in the extreme north-west.

The wind along the coast will be a moderate to fresh north-easterly to easterly.

The expected UVB sunburn index is very high.
